INTRODUCTION
1. The COS Strategic Priorities list shows 131 countries in
the 'Rest of the World' area. Each country is judged on 3 levels
of priority (High, Medium, Low) in the 3 categories of Political,
Military and Economic (Defence Sales) importance to the interests
of the UK. The list allows those involved in OOA activities
to assess the priorities of individual countries in the context
of a request or proposal for resources, and to seek approval
or futher direction on particular activities from the 00ACG or
its subgroups.
2.
Priorities may be amended to reflect changes in the
political, military or economic importance attached to particular
countries. Such changes may be relatively frequent in the category
of Defence Sales. Proposals for amendments and thier implications
will be discussed by the 00ACG or its sub-groups.
3. Categories and Priorities are defined as follows:
a.
Political Category.
(1)
Priority P1 (High Priority). A country of major
importance to the foreign policy of the UK (eg Saudi
Arabia).
(2) Priority P2 (Medium Priority). A country of lesser
significance, but where it is important that close
relationships be maintained or encouraged (eg Pakistan).
