1. I regret that the work departments undertook in response to my earlier minute will have to be reconsidered by departments in view of yesterday's announcement of a General Election.
2.
The meeting of the Ministerial Visits Committee scheduled for Friday 15 May will now take place on Friday 10 July at 1430 in the India Office Council Chamber.
3. The meeting which will take place after the election and the appointment of Ministers, will then consider bilateral visits to the end of March 1988 (ie end of the financial year 1987/88) by the Prime Minister, Secretary of State and FCO Ministers, in the light of the newly formed Government.
4.
Assistant Under Secretaries responsible for departments putting forward bids for Minsiterial visits overseas will again be expected to attend to discuss the overall pattern of these visits. Representatives of Private Offices and Planning Staff are invited to attend the meeting.
5. In preparation for this meeting I should be grateful if departments would complete the attached form and send it to Mr Hervey, as Chairman of the Committee, via their AUSS by 6 July. Nil returns are required.
6.
म
As guidance to departments for proposing dates for Ministerial visits overseas, I attach a list of known Ministerial commitments at conferences etc to the end of 1987.
