MINISTERIAL VISITS COMMITTEE
1. In accordance with FCO Circular 'A' 42/86 of 11 March 1986, the Ministerial visits Committee will meet in May to consider detailed proposals from Departments for visits overseas by the Prime Minister, Secretary of State and other FCO Ministers during the period September up to and including the Christmas recess 1987/88. The main tasks of the Committee will be to consider whether developments since the meeting held on 24 October 1986 require adjustments to proposals for visits agreed at that time. The month by month charts of visits then recommended are attached.
2.
AUSS responsible for Departments putting forward bids for Ministerial Visits Overseas are expected to attend the MVC meeting in order that they may consider the relative merits of departments' proposals which following the meeting will be put to the PUS for the Secretary of State's approval.
3. Representatives of Private Offices and Planning Staff will be invited to attend the meeting, which will be held under the Chairmanship of Mr Hervey in the India Office Council Chamber at 1430 on Friday 15 May.
4. In preparation for the MVC meeting I should be grateful if Departments would complete the attached pro-forma and send to Mr Hervey, as Chairman of the Committee, via their AUSS by Noon, Monday 11 May.
