Railways end the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Zhuhai Super-highway
will be the principal transport links in this regional
development pattern. Other roads and river transport
serve 28 distributors and feeders in the network. In
the mediun term roads will bear the brunt of freight
traffic. Kailway is plarned to assume greater
importance in longer term.
Growth rates in passenger and cargo transport demand are
forecast tc be in the range 5% tc 9% p.2. Long term
cargo growth rate in Guangdong is in the order of 6% p.2.
The planned programme of provision of capacity in the major transport links is generally 'incremental' and is
equivalent to a long-term annual growth rate of around
6% p.a. for water-borne transport and up të 10% in land
transport.
Port

Guangdong's perts are mainly for regional treding and
import. Experts from Guanglong and other parts cf
Southern China would mainly use the port of Hong Kong.

6.3.3 Huangpu Port has long term. development plan up to the
"eighth 5-year Economic Plan" (i.e. to 1995). The 1st
stage development would be to construct 5 deep-water
berths for tonnages up to 40,000 tonnes DWT subject to
tidal conditions at Xin Sha. Tenders for construction
had been invited.
