At present, the 2 container berths have a total length
of 470m. Ancillary facilities provided include 3 bridge
cranes each with hoisting capacity of 30.5 tonnes,
freight yard of 9.6ba and a cargo delivery statior.
Expert goods usually arrive the port in bulk and are
packed into containers in
in the freight stations within
the port. Export goods include canned food,
firecrackers, and light industrial products. On the day
of the site visit, ODE of
container berths was
occupied by 3 full loaded container carrier, and the
other was occupied by a general cargo vessel. The
container port is working at well below capacity at
presert, though there has beer an increase in activities
over the past year.

Two berths quirped with computerised handling systems
were built in 1980, to handle coal imported from cities
in northern China. Last year, the berths handled 6.47 m
tonnes of coal. There are plans to expand the capacity
of the coal berths to allow the berthing of vessels of
up to 40,000 tonnes.

The problem with the expansion proposal is in the depth
of the navigatior channel which is about m and would
require Gredging. At present, the constraint is that
during each of the 2 daily high tides, only 22 ships of
up to 35,600 tonnes can sail ur. to Huangpu/Guangzhou.
The water depth of the berths is -12m to -12.5m which is
capable for vessels of up to 40,000 tornes.
