Shenzhen provided they could meet all H.K. registration
and liscersing requirements. Pe suggested that the
detailca arrangements should be worked out between the
liscensing officers of both sides. Mr. Liu agreed to Mr. So's suggestion.
Mr. Sur said that in 1986, goods transported by rail to
Hong Kong via Luohu amounted to 2m tonnes only. The
amount was expected to increase considerably after the
electrification of the railway
double tracking and
between Guangzhou and Sherzhen. Be enquired when the
KCR Hung on. Terminal would be completed and whether the future expanded capacity could meet the growing demand
after the completion of the double tracking of the Guangzhou-Shenzhen section which was expected to carry
goods up to 22 m. tonnes/annum.
Mr. Sc replied that the existing capacity of KCR still
proviocd some room for expansion. As the Hung Hom Terminal extension would require reclamatior of part of
the Eung Hom Bay, it was rot expected to be fully
operational before 2000. By that time, there would be
an additional terminal area of 18 ha. and the freight throughput capacity could be increased to Sm tonnes per annum. Ee enquired if there were any estimated figures or the tonnage of goods which would be going to Hong
Kong after the double-tracking which would be very useful for the Hong Kong Government in planning for the
Hung Hom Terminal extension.
4.3.14 In reply, Fr. Sun said that since the double-tracking
had not yet been completed, it was difficult to estimate
