2.2.14 Mr. Huang Bairu (Deputy Director of Guangdong Commission for Construction) explained that rail containerisation in China was just at the very early stage of development.

Most of the containers used

not the 21-ft. standard

container and the service was not on a Goor to coor

basis. It might take some time to achieve either full

standardization or a high degree of containerisation of

the rail cargoes.

2.2.15 Mr. G. Barnes asked for details of the proposed road link

between Guangzhou, Shenzhen, and Shantou.

2.2.16 Mr. Huang said that the section between Shenzhen and

Shantou would be a class I road (road width 23m) and the

section between Guangzhou to Shenzher a class II road

(road width 12m). This road network of Guangdong would also link up with the highway of Fujian at Shantou as an interprovincial route.

Airport

2.2.17 Mrs. Annie Wong (Principal Assistant Secretary, (Fconomic Services), Hong Kong) enquired when the feasibility study

of the proposed Shenzher airport at Baishizhou would be

completeo and when construction was expected to start.

2.2.18 Vice Governor Yang explained that the construction of ar airport had been approved by the State Council but it fell to the Shenzhen government to organise the necessary feasibility studies to recommend where and when it would be developed. The current feasibility study should be completed within this year, after which further approval by the State Council would be sought.
