TELECOMMUNICATION

2.1.22 Urban telephone service and long distance communication

facilities will be strengthened. An optical fibre

communication network will be set up on the Pearl River Delta with Guangzhou as the centre. 40 counties and

cities of the Province have already set up telephone

links with Hong Kong and there are more on the way. A mobile communication network and a paging system serving

the area of Guangzhou, Shenzuen and Zhuhai will be set

up to cope with the social and economic developments.

Better transport facilities are vital to the improvement of both domestic and international links of the country

and also the development of foreign trade. Such

projects are generally to

resources. However, various financing arrangements are being considered including foreign investment and joint

2.1.24 At the end of 1986, the electricity generation capacity installed in Guangdong is 4,650 megawatts (MW), of which 2,050 MW are thermal power and 2,600 MW are hydro-power.
