China remained the largest supplier of Hong Kong's imports. About 65% of the goods imported from China in the fourth quarter of 1986 were subsequently re-exported elsewhere. Re-exports of China origin through

Hong Kong to the rest of the world accounted for 44% of Hong Kong's total re-exports in the fourth quarter of 1986.

Analysed by products, imports from China of telecommunications and sound recording apparatus,

clothing, miscellaneous manufactured articles, travel

goods and handbags, and textile yarn and fabrics all

recorded substantial increases in the fourth quarter of 1986 over the same quarter in 1985 (see table for details).
