In China, electricity supply is organised into a grid system. Within each grid, there are plans governing the distribution of electricity supply to different localities. Apart from the supply from the main grid, local electricity supply can be increased by the installation of small-scale thermal or hydro-electric generators. Electricity supply in each locality is in turn rationed to different economic sectors according to, firstly, the state's policy preference and, secondly, their respective requirements.
