LADY YOUDE

1. We spoke about Mr Galsworthy's minute of 5 February about Lady Youde's interest in maintaining her connections with

China.

2.

You have already identified the Great Britain-China Centre. On the academic side, the Universities China Committee are always looking out for eminent prospective individual members such as Lady Youde. FED presumably have papers on this Committee, which meets quarterly in the City. CRD usually attend, and Sir David Wilson was also an active member of the Executive Committee. I could put the Chairman up to inviting Lady Youde, if you agree.

3. I wonder also whether Lady Youde might be interested in the Chinese Community Centre in London? The Chairman is Dr Abraham Lue (Assistant Principal of King's College, London) with whom I work closely on scholarships for Chinese students.

(We have a scheme involving the Chinese Government and the KC Wong Education Foundation of Hong Kong. The latter also assist several Hong Kong students at King's College). Dr Lue's work at the Community Centre was recognised last year by an invitation to lunch with H M The Queen. Dr Lue has sent me the attached newsletters for Lady Youde, if you think the idea has merit. (Dr Lue will of course take no action himself at this stage).

4.

I will keep Lady Youde's interest in mind.
