FAREWELL DINNER FOR MR HU DINGYI, CHINESE AMBASSADOR TO
THE UK
1. The Secretary of State has agreed to provide
hospitality to mark the departure of the Chinese
Ambassador (Mr Fletcher-Cooke's minute of 29 April).
Private Office have pencilled in dinner on 25 June.
2. As agreed with Private Office, I now submit a draft
letter from the Secretary of State to the Chinese
Ambassador asking him to keep free the evening of 25
June, and explaining that the Secretary of State is
unable to issue formal invitations for the dinner until
after the General Election. I also submit a draft guest
list of 20, with reserves.
