Farewell Dinner for Chinese Ambassador
The Secretary of State has looked at the guest list attached with your minute of 26 May. He finds it rather uninspiring. He would not wish to invite Lord Rhodes, who he thinks is getting a little old for this kind of function. Nor would he wish to have Sir James Callaghan or Mr Heath, both of whom he has entertained recently.
Can we not be slightly more inspired on the cultural side? There must be someone a little less connected with the establishment and a little more exciting who has been involved in cultural exchanges with China in the recent past.

Is the Graham Greene the same person as the novelist? If so, the Secretary of State would not wish him to be included.
