The number of PRC officials employed by PRC enterprises in HK increased from 3,289 to 3,435 at the end of December 1986. The total number of PRC officials in Hong Kong
(including those in employment, under training or on temporary stay) increased from 4,921 last quarter to 5,045 (2.5%) this quarter. On an annual basis the total number of PRC officials in Hong Kong
increased by 22.7% from 4,110 at the end of 1985 to 5,045 at the end of 1986.

All the major Chinese organisations, except the Visa Office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, have shown an increase, the largest being China Resources Co. (CRC) which shows an increase of 191 staff (25.6%). This contrasts with the quarter ending
30 September 1986 when CRC showed a decline of 100 staff (11.8%). The Xinhua News Agency staff have increased by another 45
(12%) this quarter.

After omitting the figures for social visits
(617), the number of visiting official delegations and delegates rose from 1,440 delegations/5,698 persons in the last quarter to 2,040 delegations/7,320 persons this quarter (41.6%/28.4%).
