20. The amendment in clause 34 updates the monetary

jurisdiction of the District Court.

21. The amendments in clause 35 relate to an

application to the Director by an owner of a lift or

escalator who is aggrieved by a decision of a registered

engineer upon an examination or test of the lift or

escalator.

22. The new section 38 (1) in clause 36 enables the

Director to disconnect, or to require a registered

contractor to disconnect, the electricity supply to a lift

or escalator where the lift or escalator has been used or

operated, or is likely to be used or operated, in

contravention of a prohibition order made under section 27.

23. The new section 39 in clause 37 provides that the

Director shall certify a copy of a certificate (issued by a

registered engineer) received by him under section 12 (2) or

26(1) and deliver it to the owner of the lift or escalator.

The Director is required to do the same also when he

permits a lift or escalator to be used or operated after he

had initially refused such permission. The owner is

required to display that certificate in the lift or

escalator, as the case may be.

24. The new section 44 in clause 38 empowers the

Director to exempt, subject to conditions, any lift or

escalator from certain specified provisions of the

Ordinance.

25. The new section 45 in clause 40 empowers the

Director to specify forms for the purposes of the principal
