9. Clause 14 inserts new Part IIA in the Ordinance

relating to registered lift contractors and registered

escalator contractors.

11B to 11J inclusive.

Part IIA consists of new sections

The provisions of Part IIA are

similar to that of the current Part II which relates to

registered engineers.

10. The amendments in clause 15 relate to the issue

of a certificate by registered engineers on examination of

new lifts or escalators and the testing of safety equipment

provided therefor. The amendments in clause 16 contain

provisions regarding a certificate on examination and

testing of lifts or escalators to which major repairs have

been made.

11. The amendments in clauses 19, 22, 23 and 24(b)

provide that certain provisions of the Ordinance do not

apply to service lifts.

12. The new section 16 in clause 20 provides for the

appointment and composition of an appeal board.

The new

sections 16A and 16B provide respectively for the

appointment of an appeal board panel and the powers of an

appeal board.

13. Clause 24(a) amends section 23 (1) which relates

to the periodic testing of safety equipment of lifts.

14. The amendments in clause 27 relate to an order

under section 27 made by the Director of Electrical and

Mechanical Services prohibiting the use and operation of a

lift or escalator.
