Should Members advise that the land is required for a public purpose then the resumption of the land will be ordered. For the purpose of avoiding abortive development costs, a one-month notice will be served in the case of the six lots comprising 194-206 Third Street. In so far as the remainder of the site is concerned, the normal three months notice will be given.
Public reaction
18
The majority of the occupants of the buildings affected are unlikely to object to the proposal and the general public will welcome the open space facilities, which will bring about improvement to the environment of this area. However, it is expected that there will be strong objection from some of the lot owners and operators of shops and workshops affected.
Publicity
19
Suitable publicity will be arranged by the Director of Buildings and Lands in conjunction with the Hong
Hong Kong Housing Society emphasising the advantages of the scheme and the fact that it will improve the living environment of the area and provide better accommodation with community facilities. It will be stressed that rehousing and compensation will be offered to those eligible to recieve them.
Advice sought
20
Members will be asked to advise
(a) whether, under section 2 of the Crown Lands Resumption Ordinance, the purpose of the proposed resumption is a public purpose;
(b)
and
whether, under section 3 of that Ordinance, the resumption of the private land referred to in paragraph 9 is required for that
purpose.
(The Principal Government Land Agent, Mr F.D. ROOME, will attend befor the Council for the discussion of this item.)
