The objectors requested Government to avoid resumption of their restaurant and to resume adjacent agricultural land for the road works. Other than bringing an end to the operation of the restaurant which they had invested heavily, the livelihood of over ten employees and their departments would also be affected.

The restaurant and the adjacent land are affected. The objectors' further request on the retention of the fruit trees cannot be met as the majority of the trees are growing on Government Land and that further enlarging the boundaries for the objectors' restaurant will render the contractor's Works Area extremely difficult to be utilized.

Because of the close proximity of the future trunk road to the restaurant building (3.8 m), it is considered highly undesirable from environmental point of view that the restaurant should remain in its present position. However, strictly from an engineering view point, the restaurant can be preserved by construction of a retaining wall. On financial aspects, the additional cost for provision of

the retaining wall is $0.3M, whereas the cost of resumption will amount to $1.0M. As the existing access will be truncated, a new one will be re-provisioned to connect the restaurant to Castle Peak Road. The objectors have been informed of the proposed modifications. However, although they have promised to send in another letter for withdrawal of their objection and further requesting for various items of compensation, no letter has been received even after various consultations and discussions.
