Dear Sir,
I have been advised by you in writing that my pai-lau (i.e. the sign board of my shop together with several thousand sq. ft. of land) as well as the fruit trees in front are to be resumed. I wish to tell you that I have devoted over ten years' efforts in planting these fruit trees which have now grown thick
and strong.
Since my land and fruit trees are only resumed for the provision of office space and not for the construction of the trunk road, you are too cruel, inconsiderate and self-centred in doing this to me. It is because in defining the boundary of your office contruction project, there is every possibility for you to make flexible adjustments such as varying the size and location of the proposed building and thus avoid breaking up my shop and cutting off several dozens of fruit trees. I wonder how you would feel if you are put in my shoes. I hereby raise strong objection to your proposal and hope you would solve the problem for me. I should be most grateful if some of the fruit trees could be
preserved.
Yours faithfully,
CHAN Chu-tia
