REPLY BY THE SECRETARY FOR HEALTH & WELFARE TO A QUESTION ASKED BY THE HON. MR. HUF YIN FAL IN THE LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL ON WEDNESDAY, 2 DECEMBER 1987

Reviar of Infections of women and Juvenile Ordinance 2. Mr. HUI asked: Will Government inform this Council of the

progress made on the comprehensive review of the Protection of Women and Juvenile Ordinance (Cap. 213) currently being conducted within the Administration?

SECRETARY FOR HEALTH AND WELFARE:

Sir,

le

R

cap.

We have been reviewing the Protection of Women

and Juveniles Ordinance to determine whether amendments to

the Ordinance are required in the light of changing

circumstances and the provisions of other related

legislation. An inter-departmental working group was

established in November 1986 to undertake this review.

Since it was expected that the overall review would take

some time, the working group proposed some urgent

amendments designed to improve the procedures for handling

child abuse cases. These amendments were enacted in July

this year.

The present position on the overall review is

fact that drafting instructions are being prepared, and I hope

to be able to seek the advice of the Social Welfare

Advisory Committee in the new year, with a view to

introducing an amendment bill into this Council before the

end of the current session.
