The
Government
amended its
policy
on
1 August 1986 to admit Chinese people who
have lived in Macau for seven years to
Hong Kong. Will the Government inform this Council how many people have since been admitted to Hong Kong in this way?
Sir, wives
from China who have lived in
Macau for seven years after 14 January 1979
and their children are allowed to settle in
Hong Kong with their Hong Kong resident
husbands. Between 1 August 1986 and 31 March 1987, the Immigration Department has issued entry permits to 1,202 such wives and
children from Macau to allow them to settle
here.

Former residents of China who have
also lived in Macau for seven years since
14 January 1979 are now allowed to visit Hong Kong. The Immigration Department has
issued permits to 4.580 such visitors between 1 August 1986 and 31 March 1987.
