As we become a society which can offer an increasing proportion of our people something more than the basic necessities of life, it is natural that more emphasis should be placed on improving the quality of life. This means, among other things,

to now, many of our pollution problems are becoming worse, not better. Indeed, after decades of economic and population growth, we are now faced in some areas with serious pollution. I have seen many examples over the past few months. need to do more to tackle this problem.
