CHIEF SECRETARY:

Sir,

This debate on the Motion

the Motion of Thanks has been a

wide-ranging one, covering all the main areas of the

Government's activities and programmes. This is as it

should be, because the Governor's Annual Address provides a

unique opportunity for this Council, together with the

Administration and the community as a whole, to take stock

of where we have got to as a society, and to look ahead to

what we shall be doing to make Hong Kong an

place in which its people can live and work.
