EMIGRATION FROM HONG KONG
Points to Make (defensive)
1. We are watching emigration trends carefully.
2. While full statistics are difficult to obtain we agree that there
has been an increase in recent months.
3. There are a number of reasons for this, including increased
emigration opportunities in some leading recipient countries particularly Canada and Australia.
4. Concern about the future may be one factor in influencing
people's decisions but by no means the only one.
5. Many people return to Hong Kong after they have obtained an
overseas passport.
