Delegation Seeks Urgent Action by Britain in Hong Kong

A delegation of Hong Kong community leaders arrived in London

today to impress on the British Government and Parliament the

gravity of the confidence crisis in Hong Kong and the urgent

need for remedial action.

Led by Martin Lee Q.C., a barrister and an elected member of

Hong Kong's Legislative Council, the delegation

includes

Legislative Councillors, District Board Members, business

executives, professionals, academics and leaders of labour and

student groups, and is representative of a diverse and

wide spread of public opinion.

The delegation has requested meetings with the Prime Minister,

Mrs Margaret Thatcher, and the Foreign Secretary, Sir Geoffrey

Howe, who were architects of the 1984 Sino-British agreement on

Hong Kong. But the delegation has been told that "neither
