HONG KONG: CALL UPON THE SECRETARY OF STATE BY MR LI KA-SHING, 22 JULY 198
The Secretary of State will be meeting Mr Li Ka-Shing, Chairman of Cheung Koog (Holdings) Ltd and Hutchison Whampoa Ltd, on
22 July at 15.00 hours. Mr Li will be accompanied by Lord Derwent and Mr Simon Murray (both Hutchison).
I would be grateful if recipients of this minute could arrange
for briefing to be provided on the subjects below, through
OT 2 for co-ordination purposes, by Thursday, 16 July.
SEE 3: Possible new order from Hong Kong Electric (power station, project).
IBB: Inward Investment (a possible major investment in the UK).
PEP 1: Lantau Island/Western Harbour development (the Gordon Wu proposal in which Hutchison have an interest).
Home Office: British Citizenship.
FCO/HKD: Main Hong Kong political issues.
For information: Mr Li is also due to call upon the Prime Minister (22 July) and will lunch with Lord Glenarthur at the FCO. Mr Benjamin, PEP, and Mr Beston, OT 2, are due to attend SOS's meeting with Mr Li.
