SELECT COMMITTEE ON DEFENCE : SIR DAVID WILSON

I attach a request from the Select Committee on Defence for an informal off-the-record meeting with Sir David Wilson before he takes up his appointment.
2.
Although I know of no exact precedent, I understand that CDS had a meeting with the Committee soon after his appointment and FCO and MOD officials have often briefed them privately prior to and during their overseas visits. In no case has the confidence of such discussions been breached. There is certainly no
procedural objection; indeed the Committee could insist on a formal session if they wished.
3. I should be grateful if you would consider this request with Sir David Wilson and PS/Mr Renton (it may not need a submission) and let me have your reaction.
