Sir David has told me that he would like two lunches at Grafton Street and a dinner at Cowley Street with our friends at Westminster and in the City, and indicated that these should conveniently fall between mid February and mid March.
In addition, I understand that we have both agreed that a meeting with the British-Hong Kong Parliamentary Group at the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association would also be highly desirable.
Sir David mentioned a flying visit to Oxford to meet members of the Oxford Course at his old College, Keble, and you may wish to add this to his programme.
Finally, we think that senior journalists just before this could properly be done at
Sir David may wish to brief he goes out to Hong Kong and another Grafton Street lunch.
Can you possibly let me have dates for the lunches and dinner so that I can put together decent guestlists? May I suggest mid week for each of these occasions because senior people like to get away for weekends and are usually unavailable?
Sir David will have a very busy programme but you might bear in mind the possibility of a reception for people not covered by lunches, dinners, etc. Again, this could well be properly held at Grafton Street.
My Stephen Lam has been talking to your Jeff Thomas about the programme and the need for a car for Sir David. I can confirm that we have arranged for a chauffeur-driven Mercedes to be available from Monday 26 January. will confirm details with Jeff.
