Neither the Letters Patent nor the Oaths and
Declarations Ordinance are specific as to the forms of the
other oaths to be taken by the Governor. But we may I
think reasonably assume that they are (or are very close
to) the judicial and official oaths scheduled in the Oaths
and Declarations Ordinance.

Despite the recent amendments made to Hong Kong's
legislation on the oaths to be taken by EXCO and LEGCO
members, no amendment has been made (or sought) to the
Letters Patent. We are therefore I think clear that the
new Governor takes the oath of allegiance in its "classic"
form.

By way of postscipt, a photograph of Sir Edward's swearing in in 1982 is at Flag C.
