1 kg Raw Opium seized by Customs

Case Reference: CIB/1/234/85

On 18 August 1985, a taxi driver picked up two Chinese males in Mong Kok. On arrival at Dundas Street the car was intercepted by officers of Customs Investigation Bureau and the two passengers ran off. After a pursuit Customs officers arrested one Chinese male but found the taxi had already left. Later the taxi driver searched his car and found 1 kg of raw opium in a plastic bag hidden under the passenger scat. He surrendered the drug to the police and it was later handed over to Customs for enquiries. Result: The defendant was sentenced to 12 months imprisonment.

2 kg Raw Opium seized by Customs

Case Reference: CIB 1/242/85

On 27 August 1985, officers of the Customs Investigation Bureau seized 0.5 kg of raw opium when they intercepted three Chinese males in Jordan Road. A subsequent search of the arrested person's flat in the area led to the arrest of another Chinese male and the seizure of a further 1.5 kg of raw opium. Result:

Pending.

7.5 kgs Opium seized by TF/F

On 9 November 1985, after mounting a 3-day observation at a stone house in Shum Him Tong. Village, Fanling, officers of the Frontier Task Force eventually arrested a 47 Chinese male who returned to the premises. A search of the house uncovered an opium pipe plus associated smoking paraphernalia. Later led by the arrested person, officers uncarthed a total of six metal containers, each containing prepared opium, in the garden surrounding the house.

The case was then taken over by NB and the search continued, with the assistance of a drug detector dog. No further drugs was found but the dog was able to locate an empty container, similar to the pots which were carlier found containing opium, buried under the ground.

The seized prepared opium, in total, amounted to 7.5 kgs and is worth $300,000 on the present retail

market.

1 kg Prepared Opium seized by SDS/KC

Case Reference: KC/CCR/2724–5/85

On 27 November 1985, SDS/KC seized 1 kg of prepared opium when they searched 5th Floor, 23 Cooke Street. A 54 year old Chinese male was arrested.

970 gms Opium seized by SDS/HK

Case Reference: SSPo/CCR/4340/85

On 10 December 1985, SDS/HKI officers seized 970 grams of opium, one opium pipe and smoking equipment when they searched 5th Floor, 308 Lai Chi Kok Road, Sham Shui Po. Three Chinese males were arrested.

Result: One defendant was sentenced to six months imprisonment, suspended for two years while the

other two were fined $300 each.
