SIGNIFICANT HEROIN TRAFFICKING CASES 1985
614 gms No. 3 Heroin seized by SDS/KC
Case Reference: Y/CCR/25/85
On 2 January 1985, SDS/KC officers searched 10th Floor, Block A, 107-133 Battery Street where they seized 614 grams of No. 3 heroin and arrested one Chinese male.
Result: Defendant absconded whilst on bail.
200 gms Heroin seized by RSDS/NT
Case Reference: YL/CCR/65/85
On 5 January 1985, RSDS/NT officers seized 20 bags containing 200 grams of No. 3 heroin when they arrested two Chinese males outside Yau Fat Restaurant, Hung Shui Kiu.
Result: One defendant was sentenced to three and a half years imprisonment while the other was
acquitted.
2.5 kgs No. 3 Heroin seized by Customs
Case Reference: CIB/1/6/85
On 5 January 1985, Customs and Excise officers seized 2.5 kgs of No. 3 heroin when they searched a Chinese male outside 5-19, Jardine's Barzaar, Causeway Bay. The male was carrying the heroin in a shopping bag.
Result: Defendant was sentenced to eight years imprisonment.
450 gms Heroin seized by SIU/PHQ
Case Reference: MK/CCR/237/85
On 8 January 1985, SIU/PHQ officers searched a flat on 3rd Floor, 29 Yin Chong Street where they seized 450 grams of No. 3 heroin and arrested two Chinese males and a Chinese female. Result: The male was sentenced to six years imprisonment while the female was acquitted.
450 gms Heroin seized by UB/TWS
Case Reference: TWS/CCR/55/85
On 9 January 1985, UB/TWS officers carried out a routine stop and search on a Chinese male outside 22 Yuk Wah Avenue, Tsz Wan Shan. As a result, they seized 450 grams of No. 3 heroin which the male was carrying.
Result: The defendant was sentenced to nine months imprisonment.
300 gms Heroin seized by Customs
Case Reference: CIB/1/14/85
On 11 January 1985, Customs officers seized 300 grams of No. 3 heroin when they searched a premises at 1st Floor, 13 Mercury Street, Causeway Bay. One Chinese male was arrested. Result: Defendant was sentenced to three years imprisonment.
3.5 kgs of Heroin seized by NB
Case Reference: MK/CCR/409/85
On 15 January 1985, Narcotics Bureau officers seized 500 grams of No. 3 heroin when they arrested a Chinese male outside 136 Tung Choi Street, Mong Kok. A subsequent search of a flat at Yee Sai Building, 145 Tung Choi Street revealed a further 3 kilograms of No. 3 heroin and 100 kilograms of caffeine. A second Chinese male was arrested at this address.
Result: One defendant was sentenced to eight years imprisonment while the other was acquitted.
100 kgs Heroin Base seized by Customs
Case Reference: CIB/1/27/85
On 20 January 1985, Customs officers seized 100 kgs of heroin base from the pier opposite 485 Des Vocux Road, Western. The consignment, in four nylon bags, was dropped off from a motorized sampan and was being loaded onto a waiting taxi. Two Chinese males were subsequently arrested; the others escaped at the scene.
Result: Both of the defendants were acquitted in High Court.
