PRISONER'
RELIEF FUND
The
Prisoners' Relief Fund is a separate account used entirely for prisoners' subsistence and comforts. This fund is supported entirely from private donations as opposed to statutory grants. Some donations are intended for specific prisoners, and some are used to send small monthly amounts to prisoners whom we know have no other income and who are in desperate need. The rest we use
as
an emergency fund for the relief of sickness, malnutrition, etc., and it is dispensed in one-off payments when required.
In many countries prisoners' families are expected to proved them with food, clothes, bedding and medicine. Even those prisoners in touch with their families cannot expect help when they are so far away.
and undernourished, So there are people ill,
abused living in filthy conditions because they have no-one on the spot to look after them. The small allowances made, by family, friends, or NCWPA, enable
to obtain such basics as prisoners food, medicine, clothing and soap.
We would like to do a great deal more for example we know there is a great need for correspondence courses for long-term
and for more subscriptions to a wider variety prisoners,
of can provide at present but at the moment publications than we we do not have the resources to provide more than first aid.
www.
We routinely give a small initial grant to those prisoners who are destitute on their return to this country, to keep them going These until their social security entitlement can be sorted out. people are not entitled to the financial aid released from British jails.
