British Overseas citizenship is a recognised British nationality. are not stateless, and may travel freely around the world on British passports describing them as British Overseas citizens. As British nationals they are entitled to British consular protection in third countries.
In common with other British nationals they are Commonwealth citizens. If, for example, they are living here and meet the appropriate residence and other qualifications they have all the rights in the UK which other Commonwealth citizens have eg the right to vote, to join the Civil Service, to be an MP

Not so.
People who become British Overseas citizens on 1 January 1983 are by definition, people who were previously citizens of the United Kingdom and
Colonies who did not have the right of abode in the UK. The British Nationality
Act 1981 did not affect this.
