NATIONAL

HOUSE OF COMMONS DEBATE ON HONG KONG NATIONALITY ORDER IN COUNCIL

1.

N/R

Your minute of 30 December and Mr Partridge's minute of 3 January.

2.

Our aim is to try and ensure that the holder of a British passport whose national status is described as British MATIAL (Overseas) will be treated in the same way as a BDTC is at present. He should have the same standing, and visa free access to third countries. As Mr Partridge has said he will have a normal British passport and the only new thing will be the national status (BN (0)).

3.

The draft closing speech on the acceptability of BN (0) passports makes this clear and we are happy for it to issue as amended by NTD.
