Over a hundred members spoke on the proposal to ban TV tobacco advertising, with 75% objecting on the grounds that it would damage the revenue of the TV stations and would be incompatible with Hong Kong's laissez-faire environment. Eight members preached stricter control. members, mostly from medical or educational backgrounds, supported a ban as a means to protect the health of young people.
