Dear Mr Leeks
SIR SHIU-KIN TANG BEQUEST
Fellows and Scholars Department of the British Council is involved in administering incoming trainees funded by a number of Trusts. The extent of our involvement varies considerably and brief details are given on the attached
sheets.
2.
The services offered by the British Council to such Trusts may include all or some of the following:
3.
2.1 selection of candidates, testing English language proficiency, obtaining application forms and medical reports;
2.2 assessment of candidates' qualifications, identification of appropriate training and placing candidates at training establishments;
2.3
administration of funds for awards on behalf of Trusts, calculation of costs, maintenance payments to students, payment of fees, etc, presentation of statements of account;
2.4 monitoring of students' progress and welfare, reporting as required by the Trusts;
2.5
arrangement of homeward travel.
Although we continue to provide a free service for the long-standing Trust awards, eg King Edward VII Memorial Trust, Hornby Trust, a charge is made for all other client-funded training including any Trust schemes. Fellows and Scholars Department aims to cover the direct costs of the posts concerned in administration and so charges an initial fee and a monthly charge for on-going administration. The figures for 1986/87 are:
Scale A:
-
for courses lasting up to three months, and any longer courses requiring more than two changes of base £370 initial fee, £50 per month;
