6. OVERSEAS OFFICERS CONVERTING TO THE PROPOSED NEW PENSION SCHEME WOULD BE ELIGIBLE FOR COMPENSATION IF THEY WERE RETIRED AT 57 AND,

IN EQUITY, WE ARE ALSO PROPOSING TO EXTEND COMPENSATION ARRANGEMENTS TO THOSE REMAINING ON THE EXISTING SCHEME. BY TREATING ALL OVERSEAS

OFFICERS EQUALLY AND FAIRLY WE SHOULD MINIMISE ANY ILL FEELING

AND IN ADOPTING THIS POLICY WE SHOULD BE LEFT WITH ONLY A PESIDUAL

LOCALISATION PROBLEM IN THE MID 19905.

7. ANOTHER ADVANTAGE IN PROCEEDING IN THIS WAY IS THAT IN THE NEAR FUTURE WE WILL ALSO BE ABLE TO INTERVIEW SENIOR LOCAL OFFICERS, EXPLAIN TO THEM HOW THEY FIT INTO OUP PLANS, AND THUS ENCOURAGE
