Further to the meeting
At a banquet held immediately after the meeting
in AECS's honour by Lu Ping at the Beijing Hotel
various other matters were raised, including

It is as Adviser used in China to bring in new
younger officials and utilise the experience of older
officials. They have no executive powers. They keep
the same pay and conditions and do not work so hard.
This system has worked well in China. Adviser and
his replacement work well side by side.
What happens to overseas pensionable officers in 1997.
You say you want to keep them but would they still be
on pensionable terms or would they be retired and re-
employed on contract.
Pensionable service would be continuous up to retirement
