They do not receive a pension
but receive a lump sum gratuity at the end of
each contract.
Another unusual feature of this
contract system is that it has been used by the
Hong Kong Government as a long term method of
employing expatriate staff.

and everyone understands that. But in the past
the Hong Kong Government has employed individuals
on a long term basis under this arrangement.
