Mr WANG Ji-yu welcomed the AECS delegation and said he pleased to note that we welcomed the Sino-British Agreement and hoped the AFCS would continue to play a role in the prosperity and stability of Hong Kong. I raised the question of the role of Expatriate Civil Servants in Hong Kong but Mr WANG said this was a matter to be raised with Mr LU Ping. He then gave a lengthy talk on the ACFTU, its role in Society etc. etc. and its contacts in Hong Kong.

Towards the end of this speech Mr WANG Jia-chong the Chairman and President of the CWCIE and ACFIU joined the meeting and after few minutes from us on the background of the AFCS gave us a talk on the prosperity and stability of Hong Kong, the Joint Declaration and the Basic Law.

We returned for lunch at the hotel. Arthur doing great work as Treasurer and Business manager very carefully confirmed our return flights so that there is no nonsense about our trip back. In the afternoon we had a rushed visit to the impressive Temple of Heaven and then we were taken to the ACFTU's own hostel the Ritan Hotel. While waiting for the others to finish their visit to the wash-room Mr LU Ping arrived and was introduced to me in the lobby. We both went into the room set aside for our with the chairs set out in the usual U shape.
