The staff, in general, are now
prepared to adopt a wait-and-see attitude and they await the LegCo Adjournment Debate on 15 October with interest. Compared to their mood 4 or 5 months ago when they first saw the Report, their reaction is now more rational. While they are still opposed to most of the Consultants' recommendations, they now present their views and discuss the issues in a more business-like manner. But they suspect that the Government has already decided to accept the Hospital Authority proposals.
Meanwhile, pressure groups are continuing to show their interest. on 24.9.86, the Joint Committee for the Concern of Medical Policies (led by the Christian Industrial Committee) issued a press statement calling on the Government to make public all the comments it received on the Report and also its views on the Consultants' recommendations. The statement also suggested that there should be another round of consultation before decisions were taken.

The month saw the completion of the questionnaire and the selection of job holders for the pay level survey and the commencement of interviews of the job holders by the
