Commissioner for Refugees. In this financial year we have so far contributed a further £150,000 to appeals by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and £100,000 to an international Red Cross emergency appeal for Central America. In March 1985, we made available £100,000 to the Catholic Fund for Overseas Development and, in March 1985, 82,500 to Christian Aid, to help displaced persons in Nicaragua.

All countries in Central America, including Nicaragua, have also benefited from European Community aid to the region, to which Britain contributes around 20%. Additionally, Britain also contributes funds to a wide range of other multilateral

organisations who provide assistance to Central America, including

Nicaragua.

The FCO press statement of 27 June on the recent ICJ Judgement between the United States and Nicaragua is attached.
