Sri Lanka
We welcome recent attempts by Sri Lankan Government and Tamil
representatives to put an end to the serious violence in Sri Lanka by negotiation.
[(If appropriate) we urge all those involved to continue their
efforts to find a peaceful solution to the difficulties in the
island]. The problem of Tamils leaving Sri Lanka arises from
the conflict there which can only be ended with a political
settlement agreed between all those involved.
