11. Nakahira said that while some in the MFA were disposed to abandon the Western initiative on international peace and security, it had been decided to try to continue with it despite Eastern attempts to derail the proposal.

The Japanese gave us the enclosed outline of their electoral ambitions. We drew their attention to our own candidatures for the ILC and ACABQ, and stressed that it would be important and beneficial for our Missions to keep in close touch in New York.
