Prasong appealed for support for Thai efforts to send these people back, but, again, according to Ryan, only the Australians responded. They asked only that anything done to return the Laotians be done in a humanitarian way. (The Australians contribute financially to the "screening", and the trial voluntary repatriation programmes. The latter has successfully returned about 40 Laotians, but the willingness of the Lao Government to get involved in this project stems almost certainly only from the financial incentives offered to facilitiate repatriation.)
