supporters of the resistance against Indonesia rule of

Iran Jaye have crossed into Papua New Guinea. The PNG

Government have deported a few small groups, some of whom

have been harshly treated, even executed, by the

Indonesian authorities. The PNG Government has

introduced tougher measures such as relocating the border

crossers in new camps further away from the border zone

and tightening control over the activities of Iran Jaye

separatists.

Ethipians in Djibouti. The Djibouti government is

reported to have withdrawn refugee status from 17,000

Ethiopian refugees in Djibouti pending a reexamination of

their qualifications for it. To those who do not qualify

for refugee status, assistance will be given if they

accept voluntary repatriation; assistance even with

resettlement will be denied to those whose appeal to be

allowed to stay in Djibouti is refused.
