In preparation for today's conference, the CCSDPT organised a
series of meetings at the camps in order to afford the field
personnel an opportunity to articulate their views and questions.
Many of the points raised in these fora offer examples of areas
in which an understanding and appreciation of the various
perspectives will be essential. Some of the more pressing issues
include:
What is to become of the rejected individuals in Phanat
Nikhom such as the Aran Section and the Yunnan Group?
Are there plans for improved and more permanent facilities
including an expanded education program in the UNBRO
encampments?
If Khao I Dang closes, what will become of the remaining
refugees and what will be UNHCR's role vis a vis this
population?
Is local settlement of the Lao and in particular the
hilltribe groups a viable option?
What is to become of those Laotians who have been
screened out?

These are only a few of the many questions which were generated.
As you can Others will be raised during the course of the day.
see, none of them has a simple response and most probably each partner would approach them with a different perspective.
