RESUME OF VISIT TO THAILAND
OCTOBER
DECE BER 1985
With no specific mandate and no knowledge of Ockenden's funding ability it has been difficult to supply answers to many of the direct questions I have been asked; therefore, no promises or commitments have been made, only assurances that I would discuss each case on its merits.
Each camp or project has its own particular problem(s) and it has not been easy to confine ones thoughts to particular areas with so many varying needs. However, I have attempted to do so as far as I saw Ockenden's possible involvement and not being aware of the Committee's views.
I can make one observation with certainty, that there is as much help needed outside the camps in Thailand as there is inside them, particularly in the rural areas and the Bangkok slums.
It could be that if Ockenden wished to expand its operations in the Far East that such involvement would make it viable.
I am also very conscious of the longer term need of involvement in Laos and Kampuchea and think that we should be investigating NOW those possibilities.
