THE NETHERLANDS

The Dutch have indicated that they prefer to deal formally with UNHCR. At the last resettlement meeting the Dutch indicated that they would reach a final decision once Hong Kong's decision on local resettlement was known. We understand that the Dutch may offer 400 places worldwide this year, to be allocated with UNHCR advice, and that up 50 of these are for Hong Kong. We understand that a Dutch mission is now in Hong Kong to select candidates for the 50 places. UNHCR's Hong Kong representative has passed to the Dutch Consulate General in Hong Kong a list of 14 family reunion cases.
