cases being established in Hong Kong.
New Zealand The New Zealand Government has confirmed
that Hong Kong will receive ten places as a one-off gesture

in reponse to BMG's initiative. Comment
Commissioner here is pushing for more than this single gesture.
There is a feeling that Hong Kong deserves a better share of
the New Zealand quota. Once the Len have left in March 1986,
a further approach will be made to the New Zealanders.
15. Iceland Unlikely though it may seem, there are already
about 50 Vietnamese rofugees in Reykjavik. None are from Hong
Kong.
Comment an approach through the Icelandic Red Cross
might be promising and the British Red Cross, which has been
so helpful in changing the Hong Kong Red Cross' decision
regarding Kai Tak, might be a useful conduit.
16. Luxembourg There are indications that Luxembourg
might take up to 10 refugees from liong Kong. But the approach
must be made through the UNHCR. Even though the number will be
small, it is a useful part of the international burden-sharing.
Comment the UNHCR must be encouraged to follow up on even the
smallest number of places.
17. Switzerland Perhaps the most disappointing negative
response of all. The Swiss now provide the new High Commissioner
for Refugees and it is possible that the Swiss Government will
do better in future. Comment the best that can be expected
is for the Swiss to consider family reunion cases in Hong Kong
When the lists are available from the UNHCR here, they will
be submitted to the Swiss Government.
